COMPETITION  &  PLANT  SALE

Saturday th March, 2012       Members - 2 p.m.   Public - 3 p.m.

 

GROUP  COMPETITION.   This year we have 11 classes,  with a maximum of three entries per person per class.   Entries should be staged by 2.30 p.m. at the latest as we intend to invite members of the public to attend at 3 p.m.  

T Those entering must be members of the local group  

T All plants to be recognised alpine or rock garden plants. 

T Pots should be clearly labelled. 

T Do not put your name on your exhibits.

CLASS  A One pan - Rock plant or dwarf shrub in flower 3 entries maximum
CLASS  B One pan - Rock plant or dwarf shrub grown for habit or foliage effect [excluding sempervivum or sedum]   3 entries maximum
CLASS  C One pan - Cushion plant with or without flowers   3 entries maximum
CLASS  D One pan - Rock plant that you have grown from seed.   Details of sowing and or germination should accompany entry.  3 entries maximum
CLASS E One pan - Primula. 3 entries maximum
CLASS F One pan - Bulbous plant.   [excluding cyclamen]  3 entries maximum
CLASS  G One pan - Saxifraga.   3 entries maximum
CLASS  H One pan - Sempervivum or sedum.  3 entries maximum
CLASS  J One pan - Cyclamen. 3 entries maximum
CLASS  K One pan – Fern.  3 entries maximum
CLASS  L

One pan – Rock Plant – grown by a beginner who has never won a first prize in our show                             

3 entries maximum

JUDGING   All Hertfordshire members are entitled to vote for first place in each class and from those the overall winner.   Judging commences at 2.30 p.m.

PRIZES   A small prize will be awarded for the class winners.   In addition a cup will be awarded to the overall winner.   Prizes will be awarded at the end of the afternoon.

PLANT SALE   You are welcome to bring plants for sale with 25% of receipts going to group funds.   This will be run on the two label system, i.e. plant name on one, price and your name on the other.   The sale will be run by the group.

PHOTOGRAPHIC SECTION  (3 Entries Maximum).  This is a separate competition is to be judged by members.    Photographs must be of an alpine in the garden or the wild. 

PUBLIC ADMISSION   The public will be admitted at 3 p.m.   This is a good opportunity to promote the group.   Please invite people you think would be interested.

Tecophiliaea cyanocrocus   You are unlikely to see this species at a Hertfordshire Group Show, but it is occasionally to be seen at national shows.   It is a cormous plant that comes from Chile.
